Job Overview

AccessWay Patient Mobility LLC provides professional wheelchair-accessible and ambulatory transportation throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

We are seeking dependable, professional part-time/per-diem NEMT Drivers to join our team. This position is ideal for drivers who enjoy helping others and take pride in providing safe, courteous and compassionate transportation to passengers with mobility needs.

Responsibilities

  • Safely transport wheelchair and ambulatory passengers to medical appointments, hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, residences and other destinations.
  • Provide courteous door-to-door passenger assistance.
  • Safely operate wheelchair lifts and properly secure wheelchairs and mobility devices.
  • Assist passengers with boarding and exiting the vehicle when necessary.
  • Follow assigned trip schedules, pickup times, routing instructions and transportation procedures.
  • Maintain professional communication with passengers, caregivers, family members, medical facilities and AccessWay management.
  • Perform basic pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and professional vehicle environment.
  • Follow company safety, confidentiality, passenger-care and transportation procedures.
  • Accurately communicate delays, schedule changes or passenger concerns.

Requirements

  • Valid NYS CDL Class C or higher with Passenger (P) endorsement — REQUIRED.
  • Clean and acceptable driving record.
  • Dependable, punctual, responsible and safety-focused.
  • Professional and compassionate when assisting elderly passengers, individuals with disabilities and passengers with mobility challenges.
  • Ability to safely assist passengers and operate wheelchair securement equipment.
  • Smartphone and basic GPS/navigation proficiency.
  • Prior NEMT, ambulette, paratransit, shuttle, medical transportation, wheelchair transportation or professional passenger-driving experience is preferred.

  • AccessWay company shirt/uniform is required while on duty.
  • Treat every passenger with dignity, respect and individual attention.
  • Remain calm, courteous and solution-oriented when schedules change or unexpected situations occur.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, dependability and excellent customer service.
  • Bring a positive attitude to every trip and help make passengers feel as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

Physical Requirements

This position requires regular physical activity associated with assisting passengers and safely securing mobility equipment.

  • Ability to safely assist passengers with boarding and exiting the vehicle.
  • Ability to push and maneuver manual wheelchairs, including on ramps and uneven surfaces.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, reach and work in lower positions when securing wheelchairs and mobility devices inside the vehicle.
  • Ability to safely operate wheelchair lifts, ramps and securement equipment.
  • Ability to lift and carry reasonable passenger equipment and personal items when needed.
  • Ability to perform the physical duties of the position safely throughout the workday.

Training & Certifications

PASS (Passenger Assistance Safety and Sensitivity) certification and HIPAA training are preferred but not required at the time of application.

AccessWay may provide or sponsor required PASS and HIPAA training for qualified candidates.

Schedule & Compensation

$21–$23/hr Based on experience, qualifications and certifications
10–25 Hours Approximate weekly hours based on transportation demand
